Women in the Chinese Language

£30.00
DESCRIPTION
  • A celebration and a response to the International Women’s Day.

  • Looking back at my Chinese heritage, I created this design to examine how our perception of women has been shaped by the everyday language. This print displays a selection of traditional Chinese words with “woman” 女 used as a radical 部首.

  • Instantly one can point out how family responsibilities, societal roles and beauty are disproportionately defined to be feminine.

  • 20% of the proceeds will be donated to BESEA.N. A grassroots movement led by six amazing ESEA (East and Southeast Asian) women fighting the negativity against our identities, livelihood and cultures.
